Crossword Genius, Timetable Genius and Starting Sounds

1. During setup on a Win20000 or XP Home, XP Pro PC you get an unexpected error and setup is cancelled.

The program setup requires that the user is logged on with administrator rights.  Latest CD's detect the error so that setup is not cancelled, however certain temporary files created during setup have to be deleted manually later.  Instructions are given during setup.

2. During setup a 'missing file' error is reported and setup is cancelled.

A small batch of CD's were created with some files missing.  The error has now been corrected.  Please contact AussieSoft via email software@aussiesoft.com.au for a replacement CD.

3. During setup you get a message saying that some files are out of date and would you like to update them.

You are advised to reboot, yet when you try to install again you get the same message.

This is a known Microsoft error.  The correction to the problem is on their website.

To fix this problem go to www.microsoft.com and search for article 191096,

PRB: Multiple "System Files Are Out of Date" Errors

Timetable Genius

The latest version of Timetable Genius is V2.4.2.  If you have experienced program errors you should upgrade to this version.  You can find out your version number under [Help - About Timetable Genius] in the opening window.  More information is available under Downloads.

Crossword Genius

1. After upgrading your computer you can no longer install Crossword Genius.

When trying to install CG you get a run time error.  When you first purchased CG the size of hard disk drives was much smaller than they are today.  The CG install program relies on a Microsoft program to calculate the amount of  free disk space.  If this was greater than 2Gb then the run time error occurs.  New hard disk drives are almost certainly going to have more than 2Gb of free disk space.  Microsoft have corrected this problem and the latest version of CG now installs correctly.  A new  CG CD can be purchased for A$12.50.  Please add Australian GST if purchasing in Australia.

2. An error that has long evaded AussieSoft has been corrected.

If you sometimes experience a run time error after printing and CG closes down we have most likely corrected the problem.  Contact AussieSoft for a replacement CD.

3. If you receive the error message 'Sound file still open', or error 429, or error 50003 when you run Crossword Genius.

These errors are all connected to the one problem.  The good news is that the reason for it has been found and solved.  However you will have to contact AussieSoft for a replacement CD.  You will then need to un-install Crossword Genius and reinstall using the new CD.

4. Your CD-ROM drive will not read the Crossword Genius CD.

The CD is actually Ok, however some high speed CD-ROM drives will not read CG CD's produced before 15 August 2000.  We have now corrected the problem and all future CD's can be read by high speed CD-ROM drives and DVD drives.  Contact AussieSoft for a replacement CD if you encounter this problem.

5.  You have a very old version of Crossword Genius that was distributed on one or two floppy disks.

Support for these versions were discontinued in 1998.  If you cannot install from the floppy disk(s) you will need to purchase the latest version of Crossword Genius which is a vast improvement over the floppy disk versions.  The Crossword Genius page contains all the information to help you make a decision to purchase the latest version.

Starting Sounds

Adding/replacing audio to a word in the spelling list was found to be not working as expected.  This has now been corrected.  Go to the Downloads page for the latest version of the program file (Starting.exe).
