Starting Sounds is educational software to assist in the learning of single sounds and their association with letters, words and pictures. It is intended for children in the range four to ten years. Some areas may require adult assistance. Starting Sounds can provide special assistance for older children and adults.

Starting Sounds uses variety and fun to emphasize different sound relationships and support learning and teaching of single sounds and their relationships with the alphabet and pictures. It is suitable for a wide range of ages with or without assistance, and varies in difficulty to allow challenge. The program features Australian voices, pronunciation and spelling and has a 130,000 word base with powerful search capabilities. The on-screen instructions are easy to follow and the graphics are excellent but the program requires the monitor to be set at greater than 256 colours to display pictures correctly. Most importantly, a teacher or parent has full control of the content through customizing the database and keeping track of student progress. More...
